FRANKIE C
Frank Chaffin, 76, of Topeka, died Wednesday, February 27, 2019.
Frank was born January 5, 1943 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Frank W. and Sara Sue Ewing Chaffin. He was a 1961 graduate of Topeka High School where he was a THS madrigal singer. His first go at radio broadcast was at the age of 15 at KTOP Radio. At Washburn University, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta.
His life-long broadcast career included stations in Topeka, Lawrence, Norton, Salina, Kansas City, Springfield, Missouri, and Des Moines, Iowa. His career in advertising included agencies in Topeka and Lawrence. He was the 2007 Silver Medal Recipient of the Topeka Advertising Federation.
Frank was a featured actor with the Dale Eason Players of Topeka and Apple Valley Farm, Topeka Civic Theatre, Des Moines Theatre, and others. His love for the Topeka community was vast. He proudly served on the boards of Topeka Youth Project, American Red Cross, and Family Service and Guidance Center.
Most recently his career choice returned to radio with the development of WRENRADIO.net.
Frank enjoyed watching the KU Jayhawks basketball team, riding his motorcycle, traveling, wine, and music. And, as much as Frank loved to talk about radio and advertising, nothing was more important to him than his family. Frank married, Linda F. McCall on August 3, 1963. They started dating their senior year at THS after performing in South Pacific. She survives with their son Brady, wife Cindy, and grandson Braden, and daughter Timi, husband Jeff, and granddaughters, Dani and Jordyn Musselman. Whether it was a basketball, hockey, baseball, or volleyball game, or front row at the theater or music program, Frank could always be found smiling, cheering louder than anyone, wearing the appropriate team shirt – along with his signature newsboy cap, from the best seats in the house.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Chaffin.
